Brandon Paulin became the youngest person in Maryland’s state history to be elected mayor of Indian Head, population, approximately 4,000 people.  Brandon explains, “I just decided to step up because I think I can implement some solutions to Indian Head’s problems.”

At the time elected to this 4-year term, Brandon was a political science major at the College of Southern Maryland. He took his politics final exam the same day he won the election. Once in office, Brandon took his classes online so he could fulfill his mayoral responsibilities.

Brandon first became interested in politics at age 10 when he attended a town meeting. He recalls, “I wrote the mayor a letter, explaining that our crosswalks and town should be a little bit more safer, a little bit more visible, and that we need to put up signs stating, ‘Stop for pedestrians within the crosswalk.’” Brandon’s letter was so successful that neighbors encouraged him to represent their concerns on other important town issues.  

Brandon explains, “The importance of partnerships and cooperation are imperative to the future success of not only our town, but our country, state, and nation. Coming together as a community and working towards common goals break down the barrier that divide us and build the bridges that connect us…Every community deserves to be a place to Live, Learn, Work and Play…I am going to promote this town to as large of an audience as I can.”

Brandon was re-elected for a second 4-year term.
